Julian meets Craven broadband campaigners

March 28, 2011

As part of his Broadband North Yorkshire campaign, Julian Smith, Member of Parliament for Skipton and Ripon, has met with some of those leading the campaign to connect communities in part of Craven.

He attended a meeting organised by Adrian Precious, from Skyreholme, who is one of the campaign’s Community Champions and has worked to find solutions to bringing better internet access to homes in the area.

Representatives from NYnet and telecommunications firm LN Communications also attended the event in Appletreewick on Friday.

They discusses how to move the communities vision for better broadband forward and what needed to happen to make that vision a reality.

Julian Smith said:

“The communities of Appletreewick and Skyreholme are a great example of what can be achieved if people come together and work together to improve their broadband access.

“The Broadband North Yorkshire campaign is all about showing there is the demand for better internet connections and Adrian has gone about demonstrating that in exactly the right way.

“I am delighted to be able to support them in their efforts and will be keeping closely in touch with them in the coming months to try and help their vision become a reality.”

Adrian Precious added:

“I hope that with the positive influence of our MP Julian Smith, our local councillors and with the continued pro-activity of North Yorkshire County Council, these plans will quickly become a reality and will help inspire other rural communities like ours to work together to achieve broadband speeds that, in turn, will enable our rural businesses and families to survive and prosper in the modern world”.
