North Yorkshire highlighted in Autumn Statement

November 29, 2011

The work being done in North Yorkshire on broadband has been highlighted in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement.

The County was singled out as an example of the investment in infrastructure taking place:

‘The Government will support rural broadband by working closely with North Yorkshire County Council, one of the pilot areas for superfast broadband rollout, to ensure businesses and consumers get greatest benefit from the new service and to allow other local areas to learn from this experience.’

Commenting, Julian Smith, Member of Parliament for Skipton and Ripon, said:

“I am delighted that the work done in North Yorkshire on improving broadband for the future has been recognised by the Government as a trailblazer for the rest of the country. Connecting homes and businesses at high speeds to the internet is vital for the future of the economy of rural communities and I look forward to North Yorkshire’s superfast future bringing jobs and growth to our county.”
